Homeschooling Report: Challenges for Military-Connected Children with Disabilities

|

This report from Partners in PROMISE investigates the unique challenges and benefits of homeschooling for military-connected children with disabilities.

Partners in PROMISE initiated this research due to a noticeable absence of data on special education experiences within the highly mobile military lifestyle. Our 2022 survey revealed that nearly 10% of military-connected families with children with disabilities opted for homeschooling. This finding prompted a deeper exploration into homeschooling as a viable and often beneficial educational alternative for this unique population. The report objectively considers homeschooling as a means to create a learning environment tailored to a child’s unique needs and abilities amidst the complexities of military life.

This report also aims to foster a greater understanding of this under-researched population and underscores the importance of continued advocacy and support for homeschooling military-connected families. We invite you to download the full report to gain a deeper understanding of these important considerations and our policy recommendations.
